Suite Paperie

Branding, Visual Design, Illustration, Creative Direction

Creating a custom visual system that embodies city identity, infusing landmarks with various hidden gems of New York City in an elegant and sophisticated style.

TOOLS: Adobe CC, Watercolor, Letterpress, Prototyping

TIMELINE: Summer 2023

TEAM: Individual

Design a personalized branding system for paperie that incorporates NYC themed Easter eggs unique to the couple for their wedding at the Bowery Hotel.

For this project, I designed a visual branding system for a wedding that seamlessly integrates hidden Easter eggs and cultural landmarks, reflecting both the couple’s personal story and their deep-rooted love for New York City. Wanting these details to feel subtle and sophisticated, the couple envisioned a design where these elements would blend naturally into the overall aesthetic, waiting to be discovered by those who looked closely.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Design Process

Icon & Imagery

I then painted the individual easter eggs, including the pizza rat, Mr. Softee, a classic bagel, a salted pretzel, and a hotdog, using watercolor before cleaning up the icons in Photoshop. I created various floral motifs to experiment with when assembling borders. I experimented with intricate, realistic styles and simplified iconified iterations. To make the mosaic patterns, I started by painting three blue squares to act as my tiles. I referenced the borders of subway station signs to create a variety of patterns.

Research

I started with reviewing the client brief and assorting appropriate reference photos for the painted, watercolor effect requested. I identified the style in which the icons might be created and referenced the 34th St Penn. Station sign for inspiration on pattern development.

FINAL DEVELOPMENT

Border Iterations

Florals & Mosaic

I experimented with different layouts and orientations when developing border designs. I started with keeping the florals and mosaics separate to find what layouts I liked. I played around with different iterations to integrate the Easter eggs with the floral border to ensure a more seamless composition.

After assembling borders that featured florals and tiles separately, I experimented with combining the two to get the final product.
